For this hike, you may feel super dangerous. But if you are fit and adventurous, you can make it! 100% worth each of your steps!!
This classic hike is about 12kms. It looks not very far, but the tough road and altitude make it tough. It takes about 4 hours with normal speed.
Overview of the hike:
Some tips you should pay attention to for the hike.
Good News! The village repaired the road in September 2017. A lot of footpaths disappear, with a wide unsurfaced road instead. So follow this road and walk about 10 minutes, you can get the way up to Zhengbeilou. Just 1 way up, easy to tell!
When you get to Zhengbeilou (正北楼)it is the official time to enjoy the great view of Great Wall. There is usually a local farmer charge 5 RMB for using his stair at Zhengbeilou. Don’t get in trouble, just give this little money. The view on Zhengbeilou is amazing! You can enjoy all the wild section of Jiankou. Even get to the top of the tower.Be careful!
About 30 minutes walk, you will get to Ox-horn edge(牛角边). This is a very difficult part. If you don’t want to take this adventure, there is a shortcut along the wall. You just go along the wall through the footpath, you will get back to the wall in 5 minutes. After Ox-horn edge, about 30-minutes walk to get to the rebuilt section-Mutianyu Great Wall tower 23.
Tower 20 is blocked by the Mutianyu manage office. But don’t worry, just cross the wall like me. Everyone does it like this here.It is easy, even 5 years old kids can make it.
For the cable car is a good idea if you feel tired. A lot of people feel the legs shaking when they get there. Tickets: 100RMB per person. Students and younger kids can buy the discount ticket for 50RMB per person.
You need about half an hour to walk down from tower 14.
The toboggan is a fun way to get down from the wall. You need walk another 30 minutes to get to tower 6.Tickets: 100RMB per person. Students and younger kids can buy the discount ticket for 50RMB per person.
It was easy and safe! Very interesting!
I choose the toboggan down. It was fun! But my legs start shaking when I got there.
It is just down to the toboggan station, you can find it next to the main road, and without any problems.
The walk to the shuttle bus station. All the way is super easy to find with very clear guide sign.
After the shuttle bus, just 5 minutes walk out. The main gate is easy to find!
You can choose to take the bus home or tell your private driver meet you here
This is a tough hike, especially the part on the ox-horn edge is a little dangerous. In all, this hike is doable for most people who like doing exercise. 11kms seems not tough, but plus the up and down hills. You can count it as 20kms walk.
For this hike:
Walking distance: 12.5kms
Flights Climbed:175 floors
